Learn the art of making great cocktails. $79 per person

Ever wondered why some cocktails just work, while others don't?
Join us behind the bar at Woods Distillery for a hands-on introduction to the fundamentals of cocktail making. We'll take the mystery out of cocktails, teach you the fundamentals behind balanced recipes and demonstrate proper techniques that will dazzle  your friends and impress your neighbours.

Over 90 minutes, you'll make and taste three half-size cocktails, each demonstrating a different fundamental technique: BUILD • SHAKE • STIR.

You'll learn how and when to use each technique, what it's actually doing to your drink, and how to create balance between spirit, sweetness, acidity, bitterness, dilution and flavour.

We'll explore:
• The basic anatomy of a cocktail and how the major cocktail categories work
• Understanding ratios and balance so you can create your own drinks
• The difference between building, shaking and stirring
• Highballs, Sours, Daisies, Smashes and other classic cocktail families
• Choosing quality ingredients and understanding what they contribute
• Bitters, tinctures and syrups: what they are, why we use them and how they change a
cocktail
• Proper technique, from measuring and pouring to shaking and stirring
• A little cocktail history and the stories behind some of the drinks we know today
• How spirits are made and what happens before they ever reach your glass

And because we're a distillery, we'll also take you behind the scenes at Woods for a look at how our spirits are produced.

No previous bartending experience is necessary. Whether you're completely new to cocktails or already make drinks at home, we'll tailor the conversation and techniques to the group.

You'll leave with a better understanding of cocktails, a few new techniques in your back
pocket, and the confidence to start creating drinks of your own.

Each participant makes three half-size cocktails during the workshop. We'll also have a few light snacks on hand to enjoy between cocktails.
19+ only. This is a hands-on tasting experience involving alcohol. Please arrange transportation accordingly.

Workshop participants receive 10% off Woods Distillery spirits purchased on the day of
the class. Small groups mean plenty of time building cocktails and personal attention from our bartender.

Want to bring a group? Private workshops can be arranged for groups of approximately 8–10 people.
